We are in the energetic fall season of metal August 7th – October 20

The autumnal equinox—also called the September or fall equinox—is the astronomical start of the fall season in the Northern Hemisphere and of the spring season in the Southern Hemisphere beginning on September 22, 2021. In Traditional Chinese Medicine we have entered the energetic Fall season as of August 7 (Metal) and lasting until October 20.

WHAT IS AN EQUINOX?

The word “equinox” comes from Latin aequus, meaning “equal,” and nox, “night.” On the equinox, day and night are roughly equal in length.

During the equinox, the Sun crosses what we call the “celestial equator”—an imaginary extension of Earth’s equator line into space. The equinox occurs precisely when the Sun’s center passes through this line. When the Sun crosses the equator from north to south, this marks the autumnal equinox; when it crosses from south to north, this marks the vernal equinox.

After the autumnal equinox, the Sun begins to rise later, and nightfall comes sooner. This ends with the December Solstice, when days start to grow longer and nights shorter.

The autumnal equinox is a time of harvest. Make a list of everything you are thankful for as a way of reaping your inner harvest. Better yet, start a gratitude journal. Gratitude brings abundance. All you need is 3 minutes of your day to jot a few things you are grate-filled for! “3-Minute Journaling”

If you don’t know where to begin, start with the food you have to eat and the roof over your head. It will flow naturally from there. May your inner harvest be bountiful!

Because night and day are approximately the same lengths, the equinox is a great day to create equilibrium in the home. Restore balance by doing a fall deep cleaning. Get rid of anything that you no longer need to make space for inner abundance.

Next, use the power of rhythm and routines to help you get organized and provide a framework for your day. A daily rhythm can also increase productivity and assist you with time management.

We also like to establish seasonal routines that create a connection to the world we live in and add meaning to our family life. This is one of the many reasons that we like to celebrate the fall equinox. Children thrive on regular household rhythms and routines.

This is a nice time to introduce taking care of our bodies and teaching how to wash our face or bath before bed. An idea that is fun is creating a “masking” time with our energetic colored clays of the season.

The fall equinox is a great time of year to create goals or start a project. It is always a good time to renew your self-care time or beginning a regimen that you wish to keep going forward. Think of ideas that enhance your wellbeing inside your home, mindful moments to nourish your brain and ways you can increase your physical activity. Adding nutrients and vitamins during this time is a great way to keep your immune system strong. Vitamin D3 for one, Astra-C and having Cold Away and other herbs ready for when you need them the most.

Make a list of everything you’ve been wanting to do.

Pick your top three choices.

Head to a local farm or your local farmers market for traditional fall harvest food items to host your own feast to celebrate the arrival of fall.

Invite children to go on a field trip to a local farm this autumn. Try a fun field trip idea like apple picking, pumpkin hunt or collecting items on a walk to create fall art and craft ideas – the kids will LOVE it!
