February 2009
On February 6th, Melanie and Bob Sachs and I had the opportunity to set up a spa for one of the Grammy venues organized by Beverly Visty-Doman of Dharmata and John Forrester as part of their "Green With Music" event.
Called Spa Tibet to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the exile of the Tibetan people from Tibet, we took two rooms of The Mercury in Koreatown in LA and converted them into a Tibetan spa replete with beautiful tapestries, carpets, thankas, and other artifacts. The rooftop eco-gala benefit held on that evening supports the “Wherever The Need” Foundation. “Green With Music,” the only all-green, sustainable Eco-fabulous retreat and spa during the Grammys, merged celebrity culture and spa experiences with green brands to encourage and inspire healthy and sustainable lifestyles.
Bob and Melanie assembled a staff of myself, Theresa Blackner, Nestor Ruiz and Bob and Melanie’s daughter, Christina Sachs, who offered 5 modified versions of our Tibetan Ayurvedic treatments. Most of the people we worked with were either stars from the movie or music industry and the media. We even had a meditation and yoga room set up and Lama Dawa Tharchin of BodhiPath Buddhist Centers offered meditations on the Bodhisattva of Compassion, Chenrezig (also known as Kwan Yin) and silent sitting. The spa was located in the stunning, sustainable Penthouses and Rooftop of The Mercury offering spectacular roof top views of LA.
In the frenzy of Grammy weekend, we were able to offer a serene and healing atmosphere that seemed to light up those we touched. To read more, go to http://www.buzzine.com/2009/02/green-with-music/.
My colleagues Bob and Melanie Sachs are international authors and instructors for Ayurvedic theory, treatments and consulting. It was truly my pleasure to be a part of this incredible weekend.
Spa Tibet was the first venue where Bob, Melanie and their team launched a "Spa without Walls" initiative. The idea is to not only make spas places that you go to, but an awareness and ability to do kind things to restore and re-energize yourself wherever you are. Stay tuned for more information.
